Ilha De Mozambique is our next stop today.
Crossing the bridge, with a stunning view of Ilha De
Mocambique, is an experience in itself. It’s like playing " CHICKEN" - who's going to move away FIRST. There is a
slipway every 500m. The length of the bridge is 3.2km.
As you enter the Island, reed houses showcase the evidence of tribal existence. The state of the art hospital, in all its splendor, stood the test of time. It once served the Island and all the sea traffic from Arabia, India and Portugal, but now only houses a clinic. The Governor’s house, which was once used by Samora Machel when visiting the Island, is now a statue of wealth of years gone by.
Relique Restaurant faces the harbour, and was the best choice for lunch. The owner, a pleasant lady, recommended the chef’s freshly made fish curries. Everybody indulged in their preference.
We completed our drive through the Island viewing churches and Mosques, now only hosting ghosts.
You pay your toll money when leaving. Upon entering the
bridge the island fee was 100 Meticas. Exiting is 50 Meticas Municipal fee. I
don't know what the difference is?
Chocas Mar, a reed shelter, is located on top of a dune a Reed shelter, and has a long drop, an Awesome beach with white sand and turquoise water, and millions of shells. Oh, and a security guard named Quadro. I think this is a good place to lay our heads tonight.
Soon the campfire was burning high and seafood was once
again on the menu.
What a blessing to wake up to such a view and being the only people in sight. This must be where Adam and Eve lived?
“Pemba” is entered in on the GPS. After a moment of
silence on the beach, we were ready to leave.
